Day 15, 16, 17, and 18: More family time and trip to Sorrento and Pompeii

It has been very difficult to find the time to post, so we have a long one this time to catch up on all the fun we have been having.
Day 15 after our day at the beach was very quiet. We visited with Zia Rosetta and Zio Fernando for lunch then met their son Walter and his family. We all needed a break from the sun and some good sleep, so this day was our time to decompress and get a good sleep.
Day 16 we spent the day visiting Tony's hometown of Ortona and Caldari. In Ortona, we were able to see the Adriatic again from a beautiful seaside walk which led us to explore an ancient castle, as well as the monument commemorating Canadian military forces that freed Ortona from German control in World War II. Lunch was at a very charming restaurant and this led us to visit the Cellini gravesites and some local vineyards. We finally found the infamous wine fountain (more like a wine tap) and had fun taking pictures of the free wine flowing in the vineyard. I couldn't pass up the chance to visit the Canadian military cemetery in Ortona, so our final stop on that trip was to see this site. That evening, we had a beautiful family and friend dinner at Andrea and Carla's beautiful house. The main course was arrosticini which is skewers of sheep meat salted and barbequed. It is an Abruzzi dish and we all really enjoyed the company and the meal.
Day 17 we took our time travelling to Sorrento and found our way up to our Airbnb at the top of Monte Faito. This mountain overlooks Naples, Sorrento and Capri, and has beautiful sunsets. We spent time exploring the area and had an early dinner and bedtime in order to be ready for our busy day the next day
Day 18 was a busy touristy day in Pompeii and Sorrento. Our mountain top home was close to an 8-minute gondola that took us down the mountain and right to a train station where we could travel around the area. We got up early to beat the heat in Pompeii, and we lucked out with one of the coldest days they have had in a while...it was only 27 degrees. But...in the ruins without much shade, it was still really hot. The kids loved seeing all of the different parts of Pompeii but were really done by the end of our 3 hours there. Lunch was in a very shady section of the city, and then we took the very hot train into Sorrento where we wandered around and bought quite a few gifts. Dinner was once again on the top of our mountain, and we watched the sunset and the lights come on around the Coast of Naples.
We will try to stay on top of this for the next few days as it will slow down a bit more.

Gabe:
Day 15: Today I woke up with a big, big burn on my back. I had breakfast and played on my phone until it was time to go to Zia Rosetta's house for lunch. When we got to Zia Rosetta's house, we sat and talked to them and we all got pastries and juice. Then we had lunch which was baked pasta and I was feeling kind of sleepy so we went back to the apartment and I slept for an hour. When I went to sleep I was cuddling with Mom, but when I woke up I saw Julian beside me...it was a little creepy. We then went back to Zia Rosetta's house to meet more of our family. When we got home that night, I had to go to bed early.
Day 16: Today I got up, had breakfast, and then an hour later we all went to Ortona. When I mean all, I mean, Gramma, Nonno, Alie, Mom, Dad, Julian and me. When we got to Ortona we found a parking spot and went straight to a castle that Nonno saw when he went to school in that city. We went up to the top of the castle, took some pictures, then went down and into some caves. Then we all walked back to the car and went for lunch. After lunch, we all went to the Canadian Military Cemetery, but before we went in there, we all went to a grape field where we took pictures, but the trees were really high. Then we went into the cemetery where it was pretty sad but also cool because I got to hold a lizard! We went to the wine fountain too and Mom, Dad, Gramma and Nonno drank wine but we had to drink the water that was there. That night we went to Andrea and Carla's place where we had dinner, played soccer and foosball.  At dinner I ate 7 arrosticinis Then, Julian, Kevin and I went inside and played Fifa.
Day 17: I had to get up early today because we had to drive to Sorrento to get to our Airbnb. It was at the top of a mountain. It was really windy getting up there and took a long time so I felt really car sick. When we got to the top of the hill we saw our Airbnb person and he showed us around the house and where the gondola and a restaurant was. Then we left us at the house, gave us the keys, and left. Then, after having dinner at the restaurant, we walked over to see the sunset. It was really pretty and we all took pictures and went for a cappuccino and went home.
Day 18: The next day I had to get up early again so we could get to the gondola early so we could get down and catch the train to Pompeii. Pompeii was pretty cool but also kinda boring. We got to see dead bodies that were buried when the volcano erupted. I also got to see a famous dead dog that died in the volcano too...and a baby. When we finished Pompeii, we went to a train station where we had to travel 30 minutes to Sorrento. When we got to Sorrento, we walked around, saw some boring stuff, got Gelato, went down a street and got candy and stuff for friends, then went back to the train station. We took the Gondola up the mountain, went for dinner and then went to bed.

Julian:
Today we had a down tome for the whole morning but at lunch, we drove to our Zia Rosettas house and had some great pasta! After lunch, we chatted a lot until it was time to go. They had a beautiful house. After we left we drove all the way to the MEGALO and went shopping. In the end,. we got nothing
The next day we got up early and took off to Ortona. When we got there we saw a big Canadian tank that was a monument for all the Canadians that helped out in World War 2. Then we drove to Nonnos Grandparents graves and paid them some respect. Then we drove off and went to a wine fountain and also went and saw where Nonno grew up. It is cool to look at the house of your grandparent. On the way back we said hi to Nonno's cousin and left. After that, we went to the Canadian cemetery and saw some of the graves of Canadians that died in World War 2. Seeing that makes you proud to be Canadian. That night we went to Andrea and Carla's house and had a party. It was so long that we stayed until midnight eating and playing foosball.
The next day we got up bright and early so that we could get to our Air BnB in Napoli on Monte Faito. When we got there the owner of the house showed us around and left. He got us some presents. For all the adults. He got them a one-gallon glass container of red wine. That night we walked out to the edge and watched the sunset, it was beautiful.
The next morning was everyone rushing to get out of the house so that we could catch the gondola on time. The ride down was super fun once we finish riding the bus and gondola we walked into Pompei. It was really cool getting to look at how people lived before even Rome was founded. Around an hour after we started we saw a symbol of a flying penis. Right after that, we saw how they had saunas and how they bathed. Then we saw all the stone bodies that the excavators made with the dead people mould that they found.  Once we finished we had lunch and went off to Sorrento. There we saw a lot of lemon trees and a lot of lemon products being sold. After half an hour of walking, we got some gelato and went home and watch the sunset again. Today was great.

Alie:
Day 15: Today was the day after our long day on the beach. We all had burns on our backs and necks and were super tired. We had a nice relaxing morning and then went for lunch at Zia Rosetta's house where we had baked pasta. After lunch, Gabe was super tired so we went home for a while so that he could sleep and afterwards we went back to their house to meet more family. Later I got super excited because we decided to shopping at MEGALO but we didn't buy anything. We got home nice and early and got a good night sleep for the next day.
Day 16: Today we got up pretty early and went straight out to Ortona to see Nono's home town. We went inside a castle and some caves around it which were really cool and then we all went for lunch. Afterwards, we went to a wine fountain and saw some grape fields. As soon as we were done that we went to the Canadian Military Cemetery which was nice because we got to see all the Canadians we gave their lives in Italy. Later that night we went over to Andrea and Carla's house for dinner which was super delicious and the boys played Fifa with Kevin late into the night.
Day 17: Today we woke up very early so that we could drive out to Sorrento which is a four-hour drive and I felt sick almost the entire time. After arriving at the top of the mountain where our Air BnB was the host showed us around the amazing and gigantic house we went for dinner. Once it got later into the night we watched the sunset and then went home to sleep.
Day 18: Today we had to get up super early for the third day in a row so that we could get breakfast and then catch our Gondola at 8:20 to be at Pompeii for 9:00. Once we arrived at Pompeii it was smoking hot and I felt like I was going to be burned alive even though it was the coolest day of the week. We walked around the houses and saw the bodies from the volcano explosion and saw a dead dog and baby too. Once we were done we went for lunch and then took a very hot train to lemon town which is actually called Sorrento. We got some gelato and then walked around for a while before taking the train and gondola back up to the house for dinner. We saw the sunset again after dinner which was still breathtaking as always. After we went to bed because I had a huge headache and felt kinda nasty. It was a good and fun four days.
